Insurance Coverage Questions

Do I have nutrition counseling coverage on my insurance plan?

  • If the insurance company asks for a “CPT code” or procedure code, please provide them with the following:

  • 97802 - initial consultation

  • 97803 - follow up sessions

Will my diagnosis be covered?

  • If the representative asks for a diagnosis code, please tell them the visit is billed with the ICD 10 code: Z71.3

  • I code your visit using preventative service coding to maximize the number of visits you receive per year. Be sure to mention it is a preventative service if you are told you have a copay or deductible to meet.

Does my deductible apply?

  • In the event your deductible applies and you have not met it yet, your sessions will not be covered by your insurance company directly. Therefore, payment is due upon completion of each visit.

  • I will still submit our visits to your insurance company so that each payment is applied to your deductible limit.

How many visits do I have per calendar year?

  • Your representative will let you know how many visits your insurance plan will cover. Number of visits may vary from three to unlimited or “based on medical necessity”.

Always ask for representative’s name and confirmation number.*
